stunning carved and polished sea shell from Port Blair cia 1900's The shell is decorated with elaborate pierced patterning.
Port Blair it is known for housing the famous cellular jail, with a notoriously brutal regime. This prison housed lots of the first Indian freedom fighters who tried to stand up to the British. Many were kept in the cruellest of conditions, tortured & killed.
Could this shell have been carved by a British solider serving in this prison.
